In a world, which often glorifies busyness and productivity, taking a pause from time to time can feel like a luxury we can't afford. We can be conditioned to believe constant activity is the key to success. However, there is immense power in stepping away from our work, whether for a short break or a longer period.
Taking time to be in nature, spending moments with loved ones, laughing, dancing, exploring new places, or simply sitting in reflection can have a profound impact on our well-being and productivity.
Over the past couple of months, we – at Empower World - have made a conscious decision to pause and take time away from our work. The benefits have been immense. Here are a few reflections we would like to offer because of the pause we’ve consciously chosen to take

These agreements - which all parties contribute to - outline what is also known as the ‘rules of engagement’ and define expectations and responsibilities of the coach and the client or the leader and team or between colleagues.
In coaching and leading teams, setting agreed ways of working involves the coach asking the client, or the leader asking the team or group asking each other what they need/want to have in place in the partnership to create a psychologically safe place to collaborate and work within to support a successful coaching or working engagement.

Creating a culture of belonging not only nurtures individual growth but also enhances team cohesion and a shared sense of purpose. Below are some ideas about how to create a sense of belonging utilising the power of coaching skills in your organisation.
The Essence of a Belonging Culture Using Coaching Skills
A strong sense of organisational belonging fostered by a coaching culture is characterised by ongoing, structured, and informal interactions where employees at all levels are encouraged to learn, grow and build relationships in support of individuals, teams and the organisation. In such an environment, leaders and managers act as coaches, or leaders who coach, who provide partnership, feedback and support to their teams to ensure they thrive. Do you have a gift for supporting people to overcome challenges in their lives, grow, and become the best versions of themselves? Have you been wondering how you could move this passion from just a thought into becoming a fulfilling career?
At Empower World, we believe that the heart of coaching lies in empowering others to unlock their full potential and lead lives aligned with their values, aspirations, and personal passions – what matters most to them. Turning your love for supporting others through coaching is an empowering journey of self-discovery and growth, and it makes a profound impact not just on your life but on other people's lives too.
As our lives are constantly filled with distractions, time remains a precious commodity and personal boundaries become an essential necessity for the sake of our well-being, mental health and personal value.
Why Is Setting Boundaries So Important?
Imagine having a transparent shield that protects your time, energy, and mental health - that’s exactly what setting boundaries do, they act like your own unique internal compass that continually guides you towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.
All around the world, we are being impacted by situations that are out of the direct control of many people: wars, the escalating cost of living, housing shortages, climate change, discrimination and so much more.
It’s increasingly difficult to avoid the constant reminder of highly stressful situations around the world and in our own ‘backyard.’ It can sometimes feel like the ground beneath us is constantly shifting.
READ MORESeeking coaching supervision (or 'super-vision') is an important step in your professional development as a coach. And finding a supervisor that is suitable for you is also an important part of the process.
A Coaching supervisor partners with the coach (also known as the supervisee) to support them with their practice and who they are being as a coach by deep listening, asking questions and reflecting back what they are noticing in the system the coach is operating within - intuitively, emotionally, factually, somatically, metaphorically and more.
Coaching is a transformative and dynamic process that is actually felt and experienced in ways that are unique for everyone who understands there has been a profound shift in their life. Coaching empowers individuals to unlock their inner truth and highest potential, and the foundation of the coaching process is the power of presence.
Deep presence is the ability of a coach to be engaged and attuned with themselves and their client paying attention to words, energy, the soma, all of the senses, intuition, breathing, sounds (inside and outside), and the heart and gut 'brains'.

Incorporating the Earth into your coaching conversations as a stakeholder or partner when it's appropriate, can be a powerful way to bring about a sense of environmental consciousness and responsibility for the individuals, organisations, and perhaps the environment you partner with.
In coaching, the term "holding space" refers to the creation of a supportive and non-judgmental environment for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
This powerful space involves being fully present, attentive, and empathetic, allowing clients to express themselves openly and honestly, trusting they are with someone who provides them with an opportunity to be authentic, vulnerable and brave to share things that perhaps they have never explored or expressed before.

And with that - comes the freedom to live a purposeful, joyful, and meaningful life. Without boundaries, we can fall into habits and ways of being that can be energy-draining and exhausting.
READ MOREIf you are considering transitioning into the transformational and inspiring world of professional coaching to support yourself and others to achieve dreams, goals and aspirations, there are some important questions to consider to ensure you set yourself up for success and fulfilment. These include:
1. What qualifications and training do I need to ensure I attract clients?
Coaching is a profession that requires the learning of new ways to support people to unlock their potential and ignite their brilliance. Coaching is not mentoring, advising or consulting, which relies upon the professional to provide the answers: their expertise. Coaching supports clients to find their own answers - to tap into their own wisdom - and the process of coaching requires a very different skill set from giving advice.
Attracting clients to your coaching practice requires a considered approach that combines various communication, marketing, networking and ways of being to create a thriving practice.
At Empower World, we believe the foundation of any process we use to attract clients is by being aware of who we truly are. This encompasses our purpose, top values, passions and empowering beliefs - and with this understanding, we can be authentic and come from our heart and a place that feels confident.
Professional coaching supports the transformation of lives. And professional coaching is upheld and based upon a solid foundation of ethical standards which provides the creation of a place of non-judgement, deep trust, confidentiality and connection.
This foundation built on ethics supports creating a psychologically safe place to have courageous, honest, transparent and vulnerable conversations to support the conditions for powerful change: mind, emotions, behaviours and experiences.
Grief is a natural process everyone will experience in their own unique way when we lose someone or something that is near and dear to our hearts and/or tremendously important to us.
A loss could be a loved one, a job, a relationship, a community... a country. And the emotional response and the ways of dealing with loss can be so varied and dramatically different from person to person. There’s no ‘right way’ to experience it.
As Founders of Empower World in the Middle East - more specifically Doha, Qatar - we've become very aware of the holy month of Ramadan, observed by millions of Muslims around the world.
We understand this is a very special time of fasting, prayer, and reflection, and sometimes travel for to holy places of worship, during which Muslims practice deepening their faith and becoming even more aware about themselves and others.
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity today. It's clear we need to take immediate and effective action to support all living systems.
There are many strategies which can be employed to slow down climate change, and two of the most powerful ways forward - noted by many involved in this type of work - is collaboration and vulnerability.

In fact, the ICF (International Coaching Federation) recently took several concrete steps toward action against systemic inequality in the coaching industry (and in broader communities) and Published a Statement of Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Justice.
READ MOREIn this article, you’ll discover some of the key techniques and models used by Masterful Coaches, to effectively close a coaching session: one of the most overlooked skills in the world of coaching.
One of the challenges is most coaches want to give, give, give. And while this is one of the most admirable qualities of coaches, it often leads to giving right until the last minute of the session. Always trying to do one more thing.
What is the difference between a good coach and a masterful one?
Masterful coaches support clients to create deep transformational change by allowing them to embody their experience and listen at a much deeper level for the wisdom within. A level which goes beyond words and chatter that's in their head and listening to the whole self: the body, energy, emotions, metaphors and intuition that arises.
Mental health was once a subject rarely spoken about, where sometimes people were locked away and kept out of sight, because family or community disowned or didn’t know how to support people who were suffering from some form of mental illness, leaving many living under a veil of darkness. But now, it's being brought more and more into the frontline and into the light.
READ MOREIn a moment, I’m going to share the transformational story about the above quote…
But first, let’s discuss a somewhat counterintuitive principle (at least for many new coaches and maybe for some more experienced coaches too), and how making this as a foundation of your work has the ability to put you in the top echelons of coaches as you support clients to make life changing transformations.
We never planned on sharing this…
Marie and I were on our weekly zoom call preparing for our upcoming coach training... and we were just enjoying a few moments together pondering what to share on our next Empower World Coaching and Leadership Podcast.
There has been much research into the power of intuition to support its relevance and importance in our everyday lives. Scientists, such as Albert Einstein recognise our intuition as our ‘gift’ and a necessary part of ourselves to listen to first and foremost to support growth and new discoveries.

And as we find ourselves being bombarded by information, facts and figures surrounding this health crisis; paying attention to this information encourages a perpetual state of fear for ourselves, as well as our friends and family.

By being able to navigate the unknown and potential losses in our lives, we are in better shape to look after ourselves, and therefore able to support others to do the same.
READ MORESupporting the people we work with to create new conscious awareness in the process of desired change is one of the key aspects of being a coach and a leader who coaches. And sometimes you may find the people you work with move from a deeper unconscious space where they are creating new perspectives and expanding their consciousness back into their ‘head space’, which may stop the deeper exploration.
When someone is in their head space or conscious mind during a coaching conversation, it can sometimes be challenging to support them to move back into the wiser parts of their heart, body and mind.
No matter how successful you are in life there are always times when your inner doubts or the doubts of others stop you from taking action and moving towards your goals. The inner saboteurs inside each of us will pop up and speak to us throughout our lives, and so when we listen to them, we begin to question ourselves, our accomplishments, skills and achievements. Even the most powerful coach will have times where the small voice inside gains the upper hand, doubts creep in and there is some loss of confidence.
If you can identify with this, one of the keys to silencing your inner saboteurs is knowing your 'why': being really clear about who you are, what your values are, what your legacy is and what you are meant to be doing in this world.
READ MOREOne of the biggest challenges to anyone creating a new business or practice is creating a sustainable income: an income to support living requirements in the leaner periods of a start-up.
New coaches often begin offering free sessions to establish their name and competence in their quest to become known, trusted and sought after. This is key to sustainable success, which eventually allows a coach to charge more for their services in the long-term.
Are you working towards and trusting what you desire will transpire, such as a thriving practice, a balanced lifestyle or a healthy income? Do you remain generally optimistic, even when you’re experiencing challenge when striving to achieve your goals? And do you have an abundance or a scarcity mindset in relation to your personal and professional lives?
An abundance mindset means you are generally optimistic - even in the most challenging of times. There's a belief you will 'land on your feet', be more than OK, and be at peace with your circumstances.
Do you have a desire to work in the corporate world? Perhaps as an executive, leadership or performance coach? To make a difference in a world that is perhaps often in a fearful, protective or an ineffective state, or alternatively, perhaps ready for positive change, more growth and expansion.
Establishing yourself as a coach in the corporate world means being able to share how you do or can create value through your work in organisations.
The saying “Words Create Worlds” illustrates the importance of language choice in representing an individual’s opportunities or challenges they may be experiencing, whether it be at the conscious or subconscious level. And our role as a coach is to support clients to create greater conscious awareness of their current reality and open up new perspectives, and therefore more and new choices to move forward.
READ MOREDo you find your coaching conversations are too comfortable for your client?
Are you getting a sense you’re not stretching your clients to create meaningful breakthroughs?
Do you notice you hold yourself back from asking challenging questions?
Our role as coaches is to stretch our clients to move out of their comfort zone in relation to their goals. Clients will often come to a coach because they don’t know how to reach a goal, or they know how to achieve the goal, but something is stopping them from accomplishing it.
What does vulnerability mean to you?
Do you associate it with fear, imperfection, criticism, loss or betrayal? Often those are those thoughts, emotions, habits come up when we allow ourself to vulnerable: to say something, do something or be someone visible to the world.
For far too long society has taught us vulnerability is weakness and something to be hidden from others. And as a consequence, too many of us erect barriers around us, afraid to take chances, to put ourselves out there for the world to see.
Do you over-plan your life and dreams?
Do you worry about failing even before you begin?
Do you lose so much time waiting for the perfect opportunity that you don’t really get started?
The truth is that in order to achieve your dreams you must step out of your comfort zone and take action. In the end, it is results that matter. As Dr. Phil McGraw said, “Life rewards action. Until your knowledge, awareness, insights and understandings are translated into action, they are of no value”.
Many people view perfectionism as a strength. We are often conditioned to think we need to get things right without failure or errors - and then we will be worthy or appreciated or accepted by others for the value we create and deliver in the world.
But in reality, the pursuit of perfectionism could hold us back and get in the way of achieving what we truly want. Below are a number of reasons to support letting go of doing things 'perfectly.'
As a new coach - or an even more seasoned coach - are you focusing on adhering closely to the structure of the coaching conversation? And by doing this, do you find you lose spontaneity or opportunities required for a powerful coaching conversation?
Or do you notice you are going 'off course' and perhaps not serving the client as powerfully as you could?
When we as coaches, or leaders who coach, focus on following the models we've been taught, we often lose out on being in the moment with our clients.
As coaches our work revolves around supporting our clients to live their best lives. And the tools and processes we use to do this can be just as easily applied to ourselves.
Coaching teaches us how to communicate with others and ourselves: how to create rapport, how to develop a mindset of non-judgmental curiosity, and how to challenge with courage and respect.
As a coach do you find yourself and your client getting caught up in the details of their stories? Does this prevent you from achieving the breakthrough or transformation the client is seeking? Are you unsure - perhaps fearful - about how to stop your client when they are in the details of their story?
Allowing clients space to share and process what they are experiencing can be an important part of a coaching session if the client is sharing it for the first time.
Do you seek alternative ways to strengthen your skillset and who you are being as coach?
Have you ever experienced the power and benefits of coaching supervision?
Are you aware coaching supervision also provides certified coaches with CEU's (Continuing Education Units)?
Coaching supervision is gaining momentum in the industry and reported to be one of the best ways to support ourselves as coaches, our practice and our clients.
Have you ever noticed how your clients bring topics to coaching sessions which may be similar to what you are dealing with now or have dealt with in the past?
Great coaches create powerful partnerships with the people who choose to work with them. The masterful coach gets very present with their client to support them with their opportunities for empowering change.
READ MOREAre you aware how coaching can be used to enhance and enrich everyday conversations with your family, friends and co-workers?
Coaching questions can positively impact communication, enabling more powerful connections and interactions with people in our lives: family, friends, colleagues and so forth.
Have you ever thought as a coach about the truly deep power of silence and effective listening?
Listening deeply can be one of the most powerful skills we can demonstrate as a coach and a fellow human being. It can open the doors to self-reflection and discovery for the client or person we are with, enabling them to capture their thoughts, which the client or person we are in communication with may otherwise not have experienced.
Do you set goals for yourself and then find it hard to achieve them?
Are the goals you set attainable?
Or perhaps you have stopped setting goals effectively?
To grow and achieve what we want in life, we need a purpose and direction. Goals can give us both: a sense of motivation, and a path to follow to create success. In addition, a goal also provides us with a benchmark which supports us to determine if we are actually achieving what we want.
Have you taken the step to invest in yourself? Investing in ourselves is one of the most valuable gifts we can give our selves as we are so powerful – and yet many of us often under utilize our potential.
Devoting time, effort and resources in our personal development can be the most profitable and fulfilling investment we will ever make.
