Taking the Leap: The Courage to Follow Your Passion

Stepping into coaching is more than just a career move: it’s a calling. It requires courage, resilience, passion, and an unwavering belief in the process of coaching and the power of transformation. 

Building a sustainable and impactful coaching business also requires an entrepreneurial mindset, good business sense, and strong strategic skills. Without these qualities, it is difficult to build a sustainable business.

Equally important to these attributes are the internal beliefs that support this brave journey: letting go of limiting beliefs that hold us back, and choosing empowering beliefs that propel us forward.

At Empower World, based on our own experiences of building a successful coaching practice and working with clients across the globe, we know the challenges and rewards that come with this path. Leaving behind the security of a traditional career to pursue coaching full-time is not an easy decision.

There are financial risks, self-doubt, and countless unknowns. But as we listened to our inner calling and took the first steps, such as volunteering, networking, spending time educating people and organisations about the benefits of coaching as well as delivering workshops and training, as well as offering samples of our work to those who saw the value of the power of coaching, we began to understand our market. 

We tailored our work to our clients’ needs, and this led to more and more referrals and opened up new partnerships and different types of related work. This has been an incredibly enriching, purposeful and joyful journey.

We quickly recognised coaching isn’t just about supporting others: it’s also about continuously developing ourselves. We had to master the business side of coaching, such as developing our niche, learning marketing strategies, refining our services, and building a strong financial foundation. 

Crucially, we also had to shift our mindset: replacing fears of failure with confidence, scarcity thinking with abundance, and hesitation with bold action.

Today, we are privileged to work with clients from diverse backgrounds, industries, and cultures, helping them unlock their potential and create meaningful change. The journey has been both fulfilling and transformative, proving coaching is not only about passion for what we do but also about strategic action and business acumen.

Pam Daniel, a professional coach, who took the leap from her paid role and moved into her own coaching and consultancy business, got a big wakeup call when a friend shared with her: “Until you've got the stress and the pressure to make you do it, you're not going to set up your business while you've got the comfort of a salary being paid into your account”.

Pam recognised this was true. Within 8 days, she bravely handed in her resignation, recognising how certain beliefs held her back.

Pam now declares, “Have confidence in yourself and give it a go. We're not going to be on our deathbeds, looking back and regretting this... take the opportunities that are in front of you.”

Our advice to aspiring coaches? Trust the process and your heart. Invest in yourself. Develop both your coaching skills and your business acumen. Choose beliefs that empower you, take action even when it’s uncomfortable - and above all - believe that your work has the power to change lives."

Coaching isn’t just about having the right credentials: It’s about having the courage to step forward and serve while also building a business that allows you to sustain and scale your impact.
