All around the world, we are being impacted by situations that are out of the direct control of many people: wars, the escalating cost of living, housing shortages, climate change, discrimination and so much more.
It’s increasingly difficult to avoid the constant reminder of highly stressful situations around the world and in our own ‘backyard.’ It can sometimes feel like the ground beneath us is constantly shifting.
Below are some ways to support ourselves and each other in these challenging times – to put on our own ‘oxygen mask’ – to look after ourselves so we are in the best place to look after others.
Embrace Your Emotions:
It's okay not to be okay. Acknowledge your feelings, both positive and negative. Embracing your emotions allows you to process them, helping you build emotional resilience.
Empathy in Action:
Practice empathy in your daily life. Small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect, creating a more compassionate and supportive community
Keep informed, Don't Drown in Information:
Set healthy boundaries with media consumption to stay informed without sacrificing your mental well-being.
Community Connection:
Seek out friends, family, or support groups. Connection is a powerful antidote to stress. Share your thoughts, fears, and hopes—it's likely others are feeling the same way
Acceptance of Imperfection:
It's okay if things aren't perfect. In fact, they rarely are. Embrace the imperfections, learn from challenges, and remember that growth often comes from adversity.
Building resilience is not about avoiding stress but learning to navigate through it. In these challenging times, it's crucial to recognise when you need support. Reach out to friends, family, or professionals. Asking for help is a sign of strength so that you can come through adversity.
Don't hesitate to seek support if you or someone you know is struggling. Together, we can build communities that stand strong, support one another, and thrive even in the face of adversity.
